The first martyr of the war of liberation in Bangladesh was Shanku Samajdar of Rangpur. The strike was observed in Rangpur on March 3, 1971. Shanku Samajdar was shot dead during a protest rally in support of the strike. Since then, the people of Rangpur have been celebrating this day as Shaheed Shanku Day.

During this time he met Dipali Samajdar, the mother of Shaheed Shanku Samajdar and inquired about her.
